KUNSTHAL EXHIBITION GOES INTERNATIONAL
The time has come for spreading the Kunsthal brand around the world. We have the right contacts, original ideas and entrepreneurial spirit for marketing a good product. In 2017, two projects in particular contributed to the international exposure of the Kunsthal. The first of these was the exhibition of Peter Lindbergh’s work that was produced by the Kunsthal. In 2017 this exhibition first travelled to the Kunsthalle Munich and later on to La Venaria Reale in Turin where our exhibition attracted over 300,000 visitors and received lyrical reviews from the international press.
The second was the large retrospective exhibition of the world famous photographer Robert Mapplethorpe (1946 – 1989), which attracted a lot of international visitors in July and August, and received a lot of media attention. The exhibition was made possible in collaboration with the J.P. Getty Museum, the LACMA and the Mapplethorpe Foundation and was nominated for ‘Exhibition of the Year 2017’ by the Dutch magazine Museumtijdschrift.
Crowd puller
The Kunsthal travels around itself with her own production Peter Lindbergh exhibition, but international tourists also seem more than able to find their way to the Kunsthal. In summer, especially in July and August, many international visitors come to the Kunsthal. A large number of them are extremely enthusiastic about the Kunsthal: 25% gives the Kunsthal a score of 10 out of 10 for its inspiring programme. When asked if they would recommend the Kunsthal to their friends, more than 50% gave this question a score of 10 out of 10, so highly recommended indeed! Accordingly, we have noticed that the number of international visitors has doubled compared to last year.
